While Beckmann had earlier criticized the French avant-garde, by the mids, he began to identify with artists working in the Parisian art world. Reclining Nude recalls the long-standing tradition of associating the female body with the timeless ideals of beauty.

Klimt is noted for his paintings, muralssketchesand other objets d'art. Klimt's primary subject was the female body,  and his works are marked by a frank eroticism. Nudity in art has been around for centuries in mediums like paintings and sculptures, with the interpretation represented as erotic works of art. What if the painting or sculpting is photography instead? Would it then called be erotic art or pornography?
A new Polish art gallery has defended its use of a poster featuring Mickey Mouse's head grafted on to a naked female body backed by a swastika. Local councillor Norbert Napieraj said: "For Poles, the swastika symbolises the suffering and death of over six million people. The promotion of the Nazi regime through a public display of swastika in the very city centre is a disgusting and repulsive act. Publishers of images ruled to promote fascism in Poland can reportedly face a prison sentence of up to two years.
The French post-impressionist painter and current subject of The Colour of Memory exhibition at Tate Modern, London, draws feet like pink rakes. There are, of course, things that Bonnard is truly great at: colour, evoking memory, breasts and torsos. Feet are not his forte.
